History
Plethora of Pinatas was formed in August 2009 by Cris Kodiak and friends. The team held a few different names before being set on Plethora of Pinatas. The original season in the Fall of 2009 was called Swift Kick in the Grass (SKITG) and that team sadly went 0-7-0.
The next season was indoor and the team went by the name of the Wolfpack. They got their first win that season, in fact there were 3 of them, but no playoff wins.

Spring 2010 is when the team name Plethora of Pinatas made their debut, and since it has remained. This is in reference to the movie Three Amigos. The team had some success, but ended up sub .500, still no playoff wins and a final record of 2-3-2.

Fall 2010 POP finally got over the .500 mark for a season but were disappointed with an upset playoff loss. Final Record 3-3-2.

Indoor 2010 was the only indoor season where POP played at the Ashland Sports complex. POP had a high seed in the playoffs, only to be upset AGAIN in the playoffs by a team we beat 6-1 in the regular season. Final Record 2-3-3.

Indoor 2011 was the first season that Plethora of Pinatas (POP) really found their groove. They started the season winning 5 in a row, and then won not one but two playoff games, as they went all the way to the championship, to lose by one goal to a team that crushed them by 3 in the regular season. Watching that team get their championship shirts made POP hungry for success. Final Record 7-3-1. 2nd Place.

Spring 2011 was a particularly dismal season for POP and they attribute it to the crummy field at River Park. Final Record 2-6-1.

Fall 2011 was a terrific season for POP. In the regular season, they went 2-2-2, which got them an 8 seed in the playoffs. Then in the playoffs, POP beat the #9 seed, the #1 seed, the #4 seed, and the #2 seed on their way to an improbable league Championship. Final record 6-2-2. 1st Place.

Late Fall Outdoor 2011. was a special season for POP as they went undefeated throughout the whole regular season with a 4-0-2 record, but they didn't play all teams in the league. In the playoffs they won the first round 5-0, but then went to a shootout to win in the final four, before coming away with a remarkable 1-0 win over T.O.T for their 2nd League Championship. Final Record 7-0-2. 1st Place.

Indoor 2011. POP went 5-1-1 and earned the top spot in the playoffs. In the playoffs they had 2 one goal games, on their way to their third straight league championship. The championship game was against Chicago Beers, who were the only team to beat POP in that season. 1st Place.

Indoor 2012. POP had some of their same foes from the previous season with ICSOCCER and Chicago Beers being the class of the league again. POP lost to both in the regular season, to get the #3 seed in the playoffs. A final 4 matchup with ICSOCCER turned into an overtime affair with POP winning on sudden death. Then the championship against Chicago Beers, ended up again in sudden death overtime, this time with POP on the other end of the result. Final Record 6-4-0. 2nd Place.

Spring Outdoor 2012. POP had a stranglehold on the league at Montrose Fields, with a spotless record against the whole league except one foe, FC Scoregasm. They clipped POP in the regular season 1-0 for their only loss and finished the season 3-1-2. POP won both of their playoff games to make it to the championship, and lost to FC Scoregasm once again by the same 1-0 Score. Final Record 5-2-2, 2nd Place.

Summer Outdoor 2012. POP returned to the beautiful Foster Turf Fields to play with Windy City Wanderers for the first time. The regular season only saw POP lose one game to the Wombles. POP got revenge on that loss by beating them in the playoffs to go to the championship vs. JohnBifulcoFC. The Championship was an even draw of two talented teams that ended up with JBFC getting one goal in the final 2 minutes to take home the title. Final Record 5-2-1, 2nd place.

Fall Outdoor 2012. Due to some scheduling errors, POP ended up on the dreaded Lincoln Park South Grass Fields to play in the Competitive Division for the first time since the first season. The season was a bit of a debacle with 4 forfeits during the regular season, as well as 3 weather-related cancellations which made this season go from September to December. When the Playoffs finally began, POP took down the #1 seed with a 3-2 OT Thriller won with the foot of Rob Burns. Then in the Championship, POP won another 3-2 thriller, this time in regulation, off a beautiful shot from Jeff Farley to win the game. Final Record 7-3-1 (4 forfeits), 1st place.
Indoor Winter 2012 was played at Mercy Soccer Home and was the 15th season that POP has played the beautiful game. POP went through the regular season with a 6-1-0 record and #1 seed entering the playoffs. In the playoffs, POP beat 50 Shades of CJ to make it to the championship, only to lose 6-8 vs. Team Team. Final Record 7-2-0, 2nd place in the league.

Indoor Spring 2013 was also played at Mercy Home. POP had a regular season record of 3-2-2 and the #3 seed. Two huge milestones were passed in this season, Rob Burns became the first player with 50 POP goals, and then one game later, Johnny Hengel joined him in the ranks with his 50th as well. As usual POP rose to the occasion in the playoffs, winning their quarterfinal game and then winning a tantalizing semifinal game 3-1 in PKs, as goalie Kevin Metcalfe had 2 PK saves to ice it. POP then lost in the Championship. Final Record 5-3-2, 2nd place in the league.
Outdoor Spring 2013 was played at Foster Park through Players Sports. POP went 3-3-0 through the regular season and earned the #4 seed in the playoffs. Cris Kodiak joined the 50 goal club during this season. They won their quarter final match-up vs. ICSOCCER but then lost to Manchesthair in the semifinal match. Final Record 4-4-0, 4th place finish.
Outdoor Spring 2013 marked the first time that Plethora of Pinatas did not make the league championship game in 10 seasons. The team had appeared in 9 straight league finals, with 4 championships and 5 runner-up finishes.
Outdoor Summer 2013 Plethora of Pinatas played with Windy City Wanderers with the promise of a league championship in Toyota Park. The team finished the regular season at 3-2-1, with the #4 seed out of 10 teams in the league. But POP did not have #1 and #2 team in the league on their regular season schedule. The quarterfinal playoff match was won by POP with a score of 4-1. Then in one of the most complete games in POP history, they took down the undefeated #1 seed Small Bar, to earn a birth in the league Championship.

Great people and great vibes. If you're looking to get out and meet some people while having fun then Players Sports is for you. There are leagues and tournaments for a bunch of different sports. They run them for all skill levels and you get cool shirts if you win. Also a lot of free promos - they give out a lot of drinks and other stuff. Overall, very fun and very friendly environment.

For the last three years, I have been playing indoor and beach volleyball with Players Sport & Social. They are always exceptional and professional. My favorite part of the leagues is the cadence and the different formats that they offer; whether you want to play Rec vs Competitive or 2s vs 6s - they have it all! They also have referees for all of their indoor leagues, and they are prompt to email requests.

Love attending the Luau tournaments they host! Such a fun environment they set up!

I've been competing in their leagues and tournaments for years. Always well run and a good time.
