Official Luau Grass Tournament Rules 🏐

These rules govern all Players Sport and Social Group and Luau Volleyball GRASS Tournaments.

Match Format
→

All pool play: two games to 21 (capped at 23). Master's division: one game to 30 (capped at 32).

→

For Championship/Gold brackets, quarterfinal matches and before are 1 game to 21 (no cap). Semifinal and final matches are best-2-of-3 to 21/21/15 (no cap). All consolation bracket matches are 1 game to 21 (no cap).

Players & Subs
→

No in-set subbing for 3's (except injury). For 4's & 6's, players can sub within sets. Coed 4's: 2 men/2 women. Coed 6's: 3 men/3 women.

→

Shorty Men's & Women's Divisions are restricted to under 6'1 for Men's and under 5'7 for Women's. If your driver's license reads 6'1 or 5'7, you are NOT eligible to play.

Master's Divisions are played with all players being 37 years or older on the day of the event.

Serving Order
→

For 3's & 4's, only the serving order must rotate — players may line up anywhere on court. 6's rotate like indoor: 3 front row, 3 back row.

→

For Coed 4's, all players are live and are considered front row players.

Game Play
→

No cleats or spikes permitted. Players may wear gym shoes or go barefoot.

→

Players may set the serve on any first ball over. Indoor rule applies: any first contact over the net can be doubled.

→

Let serves do not count. A serve hitting the net is dead — point goes to the receiving team.

→

Players call their own ball handling errors. Max 1½ rotations at Open & AA levels; 2½ rotations at all other levels.

→

No open hand tips for 3's & 4's. Open hand tips are allowed for 6's.

→

No side sets over the net for 3's & 4's — must set straight forward or backward (shoulders' direction). Side sets allowed for 6's.

→

A block does not count as a touch (same as indoor rules).
