PLAYERS HOLD 'EM POKER RULES
League Registration
The registration fee pays for the administration, coordination, materials and any facility costs to run the league. The players will play for points not for money. This format is exactly how we run all of our recreational sports leagues, including Softball, Football, Soccer, Basketball, Floor Hockey and Volleyball.
This league is run on the basis of our other sporting events. There is a one time registration fee for the league. After registration there is No Money involved!! There will be drink/food specials from the bar not covered by registration fee. There is no live money betting or side betting allowed of any kind. Anyone caught will be kicked out of the league and reported to the authorities.
League is played in strict accordance with municipal code 8-12-010 thru 8-12-100. "No person shall play or engage in faro, roulette, or gambling for money or other valuable thing"
HOW:
There will be a minimum of 6 players per league, we can go with a minimum of 4 players per table starting with the 2nd table; the maximum number of players per table and league is dependent upon the size of each table and the number of tables being used - Limit 10 per table.
The game is 5-card Texas Hold 'em. Everybody starts with 2000 points when play begins each week. Play proceeds for (2) 1 hour sessions. or until one player holds all of the points at their table per hour. Best 5 cards wins each hand no wild cards - The cards always talk. Standard 52 card decks will be used. At the end of play call the supervisor over and then all points are counted / recorded.
Chips have point value not money value. Each person will begin each round with the following chips and point totals:
20 White chips = 100 pts (5pts / chip)
20 Red chips = 200 pts (10pts / chip)
20 Green chips = 500 pts (25pts / chip)
12 Black chips = 1200 pts (100pts / chip)
Total = 2000 points
Over the period of 7 weeks your point totals are tallied and your seeding is calculated highest to lowest total score. At the end of 7 weeks, a playoff schedule is created based on point earnings and how you played vs. your opponents.
Play continues until one player holds all of the allotted points at their table. Best 5 cards wins the hand. The winners of each table then move on to play each other in a showdown match each player starting with 2000 points. Play continues until one player loses all of their allotted points. Best 5 cards wins the hand - The cards always talk. This playoff tournament will begin at 6:00 pm and proceed until 11:00 pm. Should there be a need for a second week of play we will tally up the points and come back the following week to conclude beginning at 6:00 pm.
Game Rules:
Texas Hold 'Em is a seven card poker game with simple rules that a beginner can easily learn and begin to play immediately. In spite of the simplicity, it is a fast and complex game that takes skill and practice to master. No wonder it has become one of the most popular forms of poker played today.
Texas Hold 'Em uses a disc called a dealer button to indicate where the cards are to be dealt. Prior to the deal, the two players to the left of the button place live bets called the small and large blinds. It's called blind because it's made prior to seeing any cards. It's called live because it counts as part of any further bets in the first betting round.
First hour of Play: The Small Blind will be 5 points and the Large Blind will be 10 points. After 1st half hour blinds raise to 10/20.
Second hour of Play: The Small Blind will be 20 points and the Large Blind will be 40 points. After 1st half hour blinds raise to 50/100.
The play begins with two cards dealt face-down to each player. Action starts with a betting round beginning with the player to the left of the blind** bets and continuing clockwise around the table. Players may bet, check, raise, or fold in turn. The large blind has the privilege of last action and may check or raise the bet.
Three community cards are then dealt face up in the center of the table and another betting round takes place beginning with the player to the left of the dealer button**. Another card is dealt face up followed by a round of betting. The fifth and last card is dealt face up and a final round of betting takes place.
**Only the first round of betting begins with the third person from the deal. Each subsequent round of betting begins with the person to the immediate left of the dealer. Remember the dealer chip rotates clockwise around the table after each hand.
When raising another player the minimum raise pre and post flop is the big blind.
Furthermore, after the turn the minimum bet to see the river is twice the big blind. You can check through the turn and river, but if someone wants to make a bet on the turn or river it's twice the big blind as a minimum.
Players remaining in the hand will then show their cards and the winning poker hand will be awarded the pot. Any combination of hole cards and community cards may be used to make the best five-card poker hand.
Standings are determined by the following procedure:
1) Each round your total points are added up - The results of these points define what place you finished for that round - 1st thru 18th, etc. If more than one person goes bust for the round the first person will be 18th place; the second will be 17th place and so on.
2) Rating points are earned based on the place you finish per round based on the number of players in your league - with 18 players 1st place equals 180 rating points, 2nd 170 rating points and so on.
3) After the very first round of play players will sit at either table 1 or table 2 based on the place they finished in the previous round and proceeds this way throughout the rest of the season - 1st thru 9th place play at table 1, 10th-18th place play at table 2. if less than 18 total players then the tables must remain as even as possible. 10 players leagues will have one table of 5 and one of 5, while 11 player leagues will have 6 & 5. Any league with less than 10 players will all play at one table
4) Players playing at table 1 or place in the top 5 per round receive an additional 25 rating points for playing against table 1 opponents.
5) At the end of the season, the player with the most accumulated total points will receive an additional 410 rating points, the second most total points 390 additional rating points, third most 370 additional rating points and so on. The 1st seed or the player with the most rating points will start the playoffs with an additional 500 points in chips, the 2nd seed 400 points in chips, the 3rd 300 points in chips, 4th seed 200 points in chips and 5th seed 100 points in chips.
6) Once the final standings have been determined the playoff brackets will be formed.
All players will begin with at least 2000 points in chips (see above #5). The following seeds will play at Table 1: 1,4,5,8,9,12 ; Table 2: 2,3,6,7,10,11
When someone is eliminated from Table 1, a player from 2 will be asked to move to table 1 at the supervisors discretion until 10 or less players remain, at which point all players will be combined into one table.
During the playoffs, the blinds will increase every 30 minutes beginning at 5/10 until there is only one winner.
Ranking of Hands:
Pictured below are the hands of poker, listed in order from highest to lowest :
|
Royal Flush The five highest cards, the 10 through the Ace, all five of the same suit. A royal flush is actually an ace-high straight flush. Which suit it is doesn't matter in poker. Two people with royal flushes would tie. |
|
Straight Flush Any five cards of the same suit in consecutive numerical order. Our example shows a five-high straight flush. |
|
Four of a Kind Four cards of the same denomination. Our example shows four jacks with a deuce kicker. |
|
Full House Any three cards of the same denomination, plus any pair of a different denomination. Ties are broken first by the three of a kind, then the pair. Our example shows sevens full of threes. |
|
Flush Any five non-consecutive cards of the same suit. Our example shows a queen-high diamond flush. |
|
Straight Any five consecutive cards of mixed suits. Ace can be high or low. Our example shows a six-to-ten straight. |
|
Three of a Kind Three cards of the same denomination. Our example displays three of a kind, fours. |
|
Two Pair Any two cards of the same denomination, plus any other two cards of the same denomination. If both hands have the same high pair, the second pair wins. If both pairs tie, the high card wins. Our example shows two pair, eights and fives. |
|
Pair Any two cards of the same denomination. Our example displays a pair of nines. In a tie, the high card wins. |
|
